Drone Light Show Safety

Safety is the foundation of every drone light show we deliver. From FAA-certified pilots and detailed flight planning to advanced drone technology and site assessments, Orion Skys follows professional safety procedures to help ensure every event is planned and operated responsibly.

Safety First Design

Our drones, designed by Verge Aero, prioritize safety and security. Feature multiple safety layers and redundancies, ensuring secure performances every time.

Experienced Pilots

All our pilots are FAA certified, ensuring expert handling and safe operation of our drone shows.

"Safety first" is not just something we learned as children.

Of course the experience of our audiences is what drives us. But safety is more important to us than the show itself.

Golden Rule in flight control systems: If you have two, you have two. If you have one, you have none.

For more than two years, your team at Orion Skys has only wanted to provide one thing - happy memories worth repeating. Our best guarantee for happy memories is to put safety first. Which is why we always have.

When we started two years ago, we had a choice to make when choosing which drones, and which software to use. We chose the Verge Aero system.

The Verge Aero system removes as much potential for human error as possible – starting with using two processing chips instead of the industry standard one. This means there’s a back up, should one chip fail.

Verge also focuses on automation. Automation of systems reduces the number of decisions pilots have to make and the number of steps they have to manually take, which minimizes the element of human stress from potential failures.

Further, Verge Aero uses deconflicted flight paths, which essentially prevents any two drones from crossing the same flight path at the same time. Anyone piloting a Verge Aero drone doesn’t have to worry about this possibility because of built in automation.

Despite other systems being less expensive, we chose the safer option. Our thinking was this: Would you rather fly on a plane with one pilot - and no system redundancy - or a plane with two pilots? We would never fly on a plane with one pilot. And we would never fly a drone with no system redundancy.

You can never eliminate 100% of human error potential. Nothing in life is guaranteed. But our drones, made by, and using, Verge Aero technology, come the closest of any drone tech out there. And that’s more important to us than anything.

Our Approach to Safety

Every drone light show begins with careful planning. Before any drones take flight, our team reviews the event location, surrounding airspace, weather conditions, and operational requirements.

Our goal is to create a successful event while maintaining safe flight operations for guests, staff, and surrounding property.

FAA-Certified Drone Pilots

All Orion Skys drone shows are operated by FAA-certified pilots with the training and knowledge required for commercial drone operations.

Our pilots follow established flight procedures, monitor changing conditions, and oversee every stage of the event—from setup and pre-flight checks to the final landing.

Advanced Drone Show Technology

We use professional drone show systems from Verge Aero, a platform designed with multiple safety features and built-in redundancies.

Key safety features include:

  • Dual processing systems for added reliability

  • Automated flight monitoring

  • Deconflicted flight paths to reduce airspace conflicts

  • Real-time flight management

  • Built-in system redundancy

These features help reduce manual intervention and support consistent flight operations throughout the show.

Flight Planning & Airspace Coordination

Every event requires planning before launch.

Our team manages:

  • FAA flight authorizations

  • Airspace reviews

  • Flight path planning

  • Site assessments

  • Launch and landing zones

  • Safety perimeter planning

This preparation helps ensure every drone show is operated according to applicable regulations and event requirements.

Why We Chose Verge Aero

When selecting our drone show platform, safety was the deciding factor.

Verge Aero provides advanced automation, redundant systems, and intelligent flight management that help reduce the potential for human error during operations.

While other systems may cost less, we believe investing in proven technology is the right choice for our clients, our team, and every audience attending our events.

Safety Before Every Performance

Before every drone light show, our team completes a series of operational checks, including:

  • Equipment inspections

  • Drone system testing

  • Weather review

  • Site inspection

  • Flight path verification

  • Crew coordination

  • Emergency procedures review

These steps help ensure every event is prepared before takeoff.
